| Category | Role | AsiliChain strategy |
|---|---|---|
| International commodity traders | Aggregate, ship, finance, access EU markets | Partner — verified supplier API for EUDR/ESG |
| Mid-tier Ugandan exporters | Bridge cooperatives and commodity traders | Licensed aggregator tier — 0.5% fee on every transfer |
| Local informal lenders | Pre-harvest credit at 60–120% APR | Displaced — LendingVault replaces their function |
| Independent smallholders (~55–77%) | Sell direct to intermediaries, no cooperative | Registered via FarmerRegistry; cooperativeWallet set to INDEPENDENT_AGGREGATOR; full protocol access including 60-second MTN MoMo payout, EUDR DDS, and credit history. See FarmerRegistry.sol. |
:::note Independent Farmer Path
Most Ugandan coffee farmers operate outside formal cooperatives.
A 2020 IITA five-district study found 55% selling to independent
intermediaries; broader ILO research (2021) puts the unorganised
majority at ~77% nationally. These farmers are fully supported by
AsiliChain via the INDEPENDENT_AGGREGATOR pattern — a multisig
wallet controlled by DEFAULT_ADMIN_ROLE that acts as a virtual
cooperative for unaffiliated farmers. They receive 60-second MTN
MoMo payout, full EUDR DDS coverage, and on-chain credit history.
A farmer who later joins a cooperative is migrated individually via
migrateFarmer() by DEFAULT_ADMIN_ROLE. Full citations in
